DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN: Amarone della Valpolicella Classico D.O.C.
TOTAL PRODUCTION AREA: 7 ha of vineyard
VINEYARD LOCATION: The vineyards are located close to the villages of Marano di Valpolicella and Fumane within the Valpolicella Classico appellation at an elevation of 420m on slopes with southern or southeasterly exposure
SOILS: The soils have no artificial irrigation system and are predominantly made of volcanic basalt tuff. Terraces are created with "marogne", dry-stone walls that are typical of the Valpolicella area
GRAPE VARIETIES: 40% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, 10% Oseleta.
YIELD PER HECTARE: 16 hl/hectare
HARVESTING & DRYING: The grapes are harvested manually and are placed in crates holding up to 5kg of fruit. They are then stored in the "fruttaio" or fruit-drying loft for 120 - 140 days thus reducing the water content and increasing the concentration of flavours and aromas.
WINE MAKING PROCESS: The dried grapes are destemmed, not pressed, and are worked using gravity. They undergo cold maceration in steel tanks for 10-14 days before temperature-controlled fermentation.
AGING: The wine is aged in 25 hl French oak casks for about 30 months. After bottling in burgundy-style bottles, the wine is aged in the cellar at a constant temperature for at least 12 months.
SERVING TEMPERATURE: 14-16°C.
TASTING NOTES: Intense garnet red. Powerful, high quality spicy aromas. On the palate it is complex and full bodied with a long finish and velvety fruity notes. These result from the long drying process the grapes undergo.

THE STORY BEHIND THE LABEL:

… I would walk through the vineyards, a place which is very dear to me, and search for inspiration for the images I wanted to give to represent Terra Di Leone. After the first labels and the logo had been designed there was only one image left to find, the label for the Amarone. I was looking for something which expressed the essence of life, the PASSION for living and something which exudes wisdom (Amarone is made from the best grapes, those which express the very essence of the vine), and here I found myself observing the knottiness of these vines which, to me, reflect the tortuosity of a lifetime. They reminded me of the life and the wisdom of Grandfather Leone who lived to the ripe-old ago of 96 and I said to myself, “that’s it, I’ve found it!"
